| NS Technologies Offering Multiple Processes By Rhoda Miel MILTON, ONTARIO (May 13, 3:15 p.m. ET) -- For the past 16 months, Canadian thermoformer Custom Vacform Components Inc. has been acquiring a series of other plastic processors to create a multi-processing custom molding firm. Now with vacuum forming, thermoforming, injection molding and rotational molding all under one umbrella, Custom Vacform has created a new identity for its group — NS Technologies Group Inc. — and is consolidating those purchases. The Milton, Ontario-based firm is shifting injection molding from three separate Toronto-area firms — Horn Plastics Inc., of Whitby, Automatic Plastics Inc. of Pickering and GGS Plastic Engineering Inc. of Bolton — into Horn’s facility, said Laurence Goddard, sales manager for NS Technologies’ vacuum forming and rotational molding division. The company hopes to find positions for most of the 100 workers within the injection molding division at the central location, he said, but must close down the Automatic Plastics and GGS facilities to meet current capacity needs. The vacuum and rotational division has about 60 employees, all consolidated in Milton. That group takes in Custom Vacform as well as rotational molding operations acquired from Urban Images Inc. and portions of Iceland’s Promens hf. While each of those companies are united under the NS Technologies structure, the company will also retain the individual firms’ names under the corporate umbrella, so customers accustomed to dealing with Urban Images, for instance, can continue to focus on that firm. But at the same time, NS will use the overall corporate identity to offer existing customers of the individual firms access to a wider variety of processes within one company. An auto supplier buying injection molded parts from GGS or Horn, for instance, could also tap into thermoformed auto parts made Custom Vacform, Goddard said. At the same time, the individual companies can take advantage of sister firms’ contacts to seek out new business, he said, further expanding business in a variety of end markets. |
